The Dalles Chronicle, February 21, 2006
     Herbert Suttle Bolton, 93, a lifelong resident of The Dalles, died on 
Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2006.
     He was born May 16, 1912 in The Dalles. He was a well-known photographer.
     He and Dorothy Bolton operated Bolton Studio for portraits, weddings, and 
school photography. He photographed and processed pictures of thousands of 
students, wedding couples, families, and citizens of The Dalles and throughout 
the Columbia Gorge for nearly 50 years. 
     He was a graduate of the Brooks Institute of portrait photography, member 
of the Professional Photographers Association of Oregon, and the American 
Professional Photographers Association. His work won numerous awards for 
portrait photography at the state and national level. He photographed American 
Olympic Champion Jesse Owens and the Dalai Lama, spiritual leader of Tibet.
     He married Dorothy Baird in The Dalles in 1935. She preceded him in 
death. He married Victoria Evans in 1996.
     He devoted many volunteer hours to the Boy Scouts of America and served 
as scoutmaster for many years of Troop 550. He was also active in Kiwanis, 
Chamber of Commerce, and the City Council in The Dalles.
     He enjoyed outdoor floral and landscape photography as a hobby.
     He had a culinary passion for gourmet cooking and took specialty-cooking 
classes in American and Chinese cuisine. He made more than 1200 dozen homemade 
blueberry muffins, which he delivered, to postal workers, hospital staff, and 
many personal friends.
     He was a member of Wauna Lake Club for more than 50 years. 
     He is survived by his wife Victoria; son Robert Bolton, stepdaughter 
Jennifer Tissell, stepsons Joe Versaw, Bill Sturgill; grandchildren, Jill 
Chambers, and Sarah Bolton. 
     A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at Smith 
Callaway Chapel, 311 Union Street, The Dalles
