She was born to Franklin Samuel and Opal (Fox) Creighton July 8, 1921 in The Dalles, the older of two children. She was raised and attended schools in The Dalles, graduating from The Dalles High School in 1939. After high school, she worked at an accounting firm. She married Frank Joseph Bonn on June 19, 1948 in The Dalles and became a homemaker. Her sense of civic responsibility caused her to be quite active in the community. She was a founding charter member of the Celilo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and served as the Chapter Regent from 1980 to 1984. She volunteered her services to the Wasco County Pioneers Association by running one of the tables at the annual gathering each May for many years. She was proud of her family’s long, colorful history, which dated back to the 1850’s in The Dalles and pre-revolutionary war Pennsylvania. For decades she was a volunteer elections worker for Wasco County, and along with her husband Frank assisted at the annual County Fair. Both were active at the local lodge of the B.P.O.E., as well as being members of The Dalles Country Club. In her personal life, she was an avid reader of suspense and mystery novels, an accomplished seamstress, loved homemaking, tending to her indoor plants and traveling. While raising her children, she was involved with the P.T.A., various Cub & Boy Scout Troops, Little League, and all of the boys’ other activities. Besides her family and friends, she loved the Columbia River Gorge, was always remarking on it’s grandeur, and referred to the east end of the gorge in particular as “God’s Country.” She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Frank Bonn, The Dalles; two children, David J. Bonn and John C. Bonn, both of Portland; four grandchildren, Noah, Jasmine, Amelia and Savanna Bonn, all of Portland; her sister, Barbara Pink and her husband, David, The Dalles; and her nephew, Gerald Bonn, Beaverton. Memorial services will be held at the Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.) Memorial Mausoleum on Cherry Heights Road, 1 p.m., Monday, June 27th, 2005. Cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Celilo Chapter of the DAR for their nursing scholarship fund.
