Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 17, 2006, 11:10 pm The Dalles Chronicle, January 30, 2006 Frederick “Bud” Ernest Bower, 87, a resident of The Dalles since 1961, died at a local hospital on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006. He was born Feb. 21, 1918, in Ridgefield, Wash., the ninth of twelve children to Fred and Hulda Katherine (Yann) Bower. He grew up in the Ridgefield and Vancouver area, and then from 1939 to 1945, he worked as a truck driver. He married Irene Jones in Sept. 1937,in Vancouver, Wash. They later divorced. On Jan. 10, 1957, he married Sharon Lavonne MacDougall in Camas, Wash., and she preceded him in death on Nov. 22, 2004. He worked as a tallyman, straddle carrier operator, loading foreman, planer man and mill foreman for R.A. Heintz Lumber Company in Raymond, WA and Bower Lumber Company in Ridgefield from 1945 to 1955. In 1956, he became a Beneficial Insurance representative and agent and in 1968, also became a cattle rancher, retiring from both professions in 1983. He was a member of The Dalles Moose and Elks Lodges, Fort Dalles Rodeo Association, 4-H/FFA Livestock Sale Committees, National Cattlemen’s Association, Charolais Breeders Association. He also enjoyed membership in The Mid Columbia, Oregon State and National Life Insurance Underwriters Associations. He enjoyed being active with the fund raising and sales committees of the Mid-Columbia Jr. Livestock Show and is a past board member and treasurer for the rodeo association. He also was a jewelry craftsman, a photographer, and was an accomplished leather tooler. Survivors include his daughter, Linda Bower, Vancouver, Wash; daughter-in- law, Holly Bower, Woodland, Wash.; his sisters, Ruth Bower and Doris Niemann, brothers, Mitchell and John Bower; sisters-in-law, Sandy Reppe, Touchet, Wash., and Theresa Bibby, Grass Valley; numerous nieces and nephews, ten grandchildren and three great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon; his son, Frederick and seven siblings. Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 30, from 2 to 7 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. to service time on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home. Interment will follow at The Dalles Three Mile Road IOOF Cemetery. Memorials may be made to 4-H or FFA stock fund, sent in care of Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home, 1100 Kelly Ave., The Dalles, OR 97058.
