A memorial service will be held in the Redmond High School auditorium on July 24 at 1 p.m. He was born June 10, 1942 in Rapid City, S.D. to George and Irene (Schaeffer) Branaugh. He spent his younger years in South Dakota and Montana, before moving to Oregon in 1953. He graduated from Mosier High School in 1960, Oregon College of Education in 1965 and earned his Master’s Degree in 1966. While at OCE he met Judy Barry and they married on Sept. 14, 1963. In 1966 they moved to Redmond. After a year of teaching at Redmond High School, Mr. Branaugh spent two years teaching at Central Oregon Community College and then spent the remainder of his career with the Redmond School District as a teacher, counselor, athletic director and coach, retiring in 1994. In 1985 he was chosen by his fellow coaches as the Oregon Coach of the Year for girls basketball. In 1986, he coached Redmond’s girls basketball team to its only league championship. Besides his coaching, he also enjoyed fishing and the outdoors, and spending time with his children. Mr. Branaugh is survived by his wife: Judy Branaugh of Redmond; a daughter and son-in-law, Mark and Jennifer Hauser of Simpsonville, S.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Julie Branaugh of Redmond; a daughter, Amy Branaugh of Redmond; two grandchildren: Jacob Branaugh of Redmond and Samantha Hauser of Simpsonville; his mother, Irene Branaugh of Hood River; brothers: Walt of Stover, MO., Pete of Elemendorf, TX., and one sister, Elleen Lutje of Mosier; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, George, in 1978 and two brothers, Laurence in 1954 and Ray in 1977. Memorials are suggested to the Redmond Booster Club or the Bonnie Holtby Memorial weight room at Redmond High School. Redmond Memorial Chapel is in care of all arrangements.
