He was born March 25, 1915 in Ione, the last of four children born to Mattie (Head) and Watt D. Brashers. He went to school in Ione and finished his schooling at La Grande. Later he was in the trucking business with his brother Bill. That lasted until 1943 and at that time he and his brother purchased the J. H. McCoy ranch on High Prairie, naming it the Brashers Brothers Ranch. In 1950 they received the conservation farmer of the year award. He married Elma (Axtell) Krusow on Sept. 19, 1974. They continued to farm for two years until the ranch was sold in 1976. The couple then moved to Lyle where they made their home for 22 years. They moved to Dallesport in 1998. They spent much time traveling over the U.S., especially enjoying their trip to Alaska in the fall of 2004. They were members of the Good Sam Travel Club for many years. In earlier years he liked old cars, fishing, boating, hunting and riding horses. Later on he enjoyed family picnics and tinkering in his shop in Dallesport. He was a 60-year member of Elks Lodge No. 303 in The Dalles, a 29-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, a 25-year member of the Columbia Grange No. 87 at Lyle and also belonged to the Lyle Volunteer Fire Department while living in Lyle. Survivors include his wife, Elma, Dallesport; nephews, Don Brashers, Lyle; Dale Brashers, Dallesport; and Jim Brashers, Lyle, and their wives and families as well as other nieces and nephews. He did not have any children, but had three stepsons, Stan L. Krusow, Umatilla; Fred C. Krusow, Goldendale; and Dan R. Krusow (deceased) and their wives. From them he had numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a brother and one nephew. Memorial services will be held at Lyle Lions Community Center on March 25 at 2:30 p.m. A potluck luncheon will follow the service. Memorials may be made to the Lyle Lions Community Center, Columbia Grange No. 87 or to the Lyle Fire Department. Graveside arrangements were be handled by Gardner Funeral Home’s Columbia River Crematory in White Salmon.
