   Jean Ellen Brock, 69, The Dalles, died at a Portland hospital on Tuesday, 
Oct. 21, 2003.
     She was born Jan. 9, 1934 in The Dalles, the second of three children to 
Martin Lee and Agnetta Ellen (Ostereng) Russell. She was raised on the family 
ranch on Tygh Ridge and graduated from Dufur High School in 1951. She then 
attended and graduated from Providence School of Nursing and lived and worked 
in the Portland area.
     She returned to Dufur in 1983 to care for her parents, and then moved to 
The Dalles in 1997. 
     She married Raymond Brock; they later divorced but remained close friends.
     Mrs. Brock was a member of The Dalles Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-
day Saints. She enjoyed crocheting afghans for friends, relatives and showing 
these at fairs, as well as her teddy bears.
     She is survived by one son, Rodney Brock, Louisville, Ky.; one daughter, 
Marie Leroy, Springville, Utah; several grandchildren; a brother, Ronald and 
his wife, Mary Russell, Kent, Wash.; a sister, Marcia Robinson, and a step-
nephew, Richard Robinson, both of Dufur, and several nieces and nephews. She 
was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Harold Robinson.
     At her request, private graveside services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 
28, 2003 at 10 a.m. Public memorial services will be held at a later date. 
Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements. 
     Memorials may be made to the Dufur Ambulance or a charity of choice.
