The Dalles Chronicle, January 23, 2006
     Zelma Edith Brown, 92, a resident of The Dalles, died Friday Jan. 20, 
2006 at a local care facility.
     She was born on Jan. 26, 1913 in Mt. Moriah, Mo., the oldest of three 
children to Oscar Norton and Tessie Edith (Louderback) Norton. She grew up in 
Mt. Moriah where she graduated from Mt. Moriah High School in 1930. She then 
married Hubert Harvey Brown in Lathrop, Mo. on May 30, 1935. They then moved 
to Vancouver, back to Missouri, then back to Vancouver, and then back to 
Missouri, and then moved to The Dalles in 1950.
     She belonged to Emmanuel Baptist Church, and she enjoyed reading, 
crocheting, gardening, baking, and playing the piano.
     She is survived by her son Randall and Marilyn Brown; Ronald and Maggie 
Brown; Conrad Brown and Pat Piehl; daughter Tessie Koester; son Dave and Donna 
Brown; son Russell and Sandy Brown; daughter Linda Brown; son Hubert Stephan 
Brown; daughter Betty Lou Mumford; her sister Helen Mae Staneck; 14 
grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Russell Norton, and 
her husband Hubert Harvey Brown.
     Viewing visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 24, from 9 to 11 a.m. at 
Spencer, Libby, and Powell Chapel, with funeral services at 11 a.m. with 
George C. Clark officiating. 
     A reception will be held following services at the Eagles Lodge on 2006 
W. 7th St., The Dalles, OR.
     Private Cremation will be held at The Dalles Win-Quatt Crematory, and a 
graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at IOOF Cherry Heights 
Cemetery at 2 p.m. with Spencer, Libby, and Powell Funeral Home in care of the 
arrangements.
