Wakley iwakley@msn.com June 1, 2006, 11:23 am The Dalles Weekly Reminder, October 23, 1987 William Arthur Brown, 82, died at a local nursing home Oct. 5. He was a life-long resident of the Friend area. Mr. Brown was born May 30, 1905 in Friend. In 1926 he went to Seattle to begin an instrumental music career, later moving to Portland to play with the Oregon Caterpillars Trailblazers on KGW radio. He served in the US Army during World War II, returning to his ranch in Friend after his time in the service. He played with the Underhill Orchestra in the Dufur area. Mr. Brown is survived by several cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. Funeral services were held at the Dufur Christian Church officiated by Rev. Asa Jensen, followed by interment in the Friend Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Dufur Ambulance Fund. Spencer, Libby and Powell was in charge of arrangements.
