Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 31, 2006, 1:22 pm The Dalles Chronicle, September 14, 2006 Randall Lee Brown, 69, died on Aug. 26, 2006. He was born July 27, 1937 in Mt. Morian, Mo. He had family ties to the local area. He was a biologist and concluded his 34-year career with the State Department of Water Resources retiring as the department’s chief biologist in 2000. In retirement he continued writing, publishing and mentoring on many projects affecting the state’s water and living resources. He received numerous awards and distinctions from public and private institutions but his most prominent achievement was in bringing people together to find solutions to Bay-Delta environmental problems and establish a rational basis for natural resource management. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; daughters, Tobie Lee Brown and Sara Randall Brown; son-in-law Shane Callahan (Tobie); grandson, Christopher Galen Tose; blended family, Allan Tose and Beth Biermann; granddaughter, Olivia Randall Callahan; siblings, Ron Brown (Maggie); Conrad Brown (Pat); Tessie Koester, David Brown (Donna), Russell Brown (Sandy); Linda Brown, Stephen Brown and Betty Mumford (Will) and a troupe of nieces and nephews and their children; and a dear friend, Jim Kyles. He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Harvey Brown in 1967 and his mother, Zelma Edith (Norton) Brown, formerly of The Dalles, in January of 2006.
