The Dalles Chronicle, January 19, 2004
     Ralph Andrew Buckles, 87, a resident of The Dalles, died at his home on 
Monday, Jan. 12, 2004.
     He was born Sep. 30, 1916 in Orange Cove, Calif., the younger of two 
children to Andrew Daniel and Minnie Gertrude (DeLong) Buckles. He was raised 
in Tolo, Ore., near Medford and graduated Central Point High School.      He 
served for several years in the Civil Conservation Corps and then entered the 
Navy in 1935. He served as a radio technician on naval vessels until 1946 and 
later re-enlisted from 1950 to 1953. 
     After the service, he returned to the Pacific Northwest, working with 
Bonneville Power Administration then settled in The Dalles in 1954. After 25 
years, he retired as an electronic technician in 1979. 
     He was a member of the Moose Lodge and active member of The Dalles Elks 
Lodge #303, and received the honor of "Elk of the Year". He enjoyed reading, 
gardening and puttering around the house and being a handyman. 
     He is survived by his wife, Frances Buckles, whom he married Oct. 29, 
1987, in The Dalles; his daughter and her husband, Kate and David Migdal, New 
York, NY; his son, Joseph and his wife, Noriko Buckles, Downers Grove, IL; 
granddaughter, Claire Migdal, Saginaw, Ore.; grandsons, Nick and Jason, 
Downers Grove, IL. His sister, Evelyn Mayer, preceded him in death, in July 
1998.
     At his request, private family services only will be held. Private 
cremation held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby & Powell 
Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
     Remembrances may be made to Hospice of the Gorge, 751 Myrtle St., The 
Dalles, OR 97058.
