Bunting, 85, a resident of Gresham, died at his home Jan. 4, 2004. He was born Sept.13, 1918 in Aberdeen, Wash., the son of Robert H. and Emma (Carns) Bunting. He graduated from Toledo High school in Washington. He married Alice Barton in 1941, they later divorced. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After discharge he worked in the family-owned service station in Clatskanie. He married Frieda Renfro on Jan. 24, 1947 in Longview, Wash. They later moved to The Dalles where he owned and operated Bunting’s Alignment Service for many years before moving to Salem where he was a school bus driver until his retirement in 1988. While living in The Dalles he became a pilot. He also enjoyed travel and golf. He was active in the Gideon’s, Kiwanis and the Baptist church, most recently at First Baptist Church in Salem. He is survived by his wife, Frieda; daughter Katherine Johnson, Gresham; stepson, John Renfro, Lexington; three grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 395 Marion St. NE in Salem. Disposition was by cremation and interment will be in Winlock, Wash.
