  January 17 The Dalles Weekly Reminder,  January 17, 1985
Ben L. Callaway, 80, died at his home in Portland, Jan. 9.  Services were 
Saturday at Smith Callaway Chapel with the Rev. Ric Simpson officiating.

Burial was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Mr. Callaway was born April 25, 1904 in Pleasant Hill.

He served on The Dalles City Council 1943-47, was the owner of C.R. Callaway 
and Sons Funeral Home here, was the founder and past president of The Dalles 
Trap and Skeet Club, a charter member and past president of The Duck Club, a 
hunter's club here; a member of the Elks, a former member of Wasco Lodge No. 
15 AF and AM and Al Kader Shrine.

He attended the University of Oregon and graduated from the Cincinnati College 
of Mortuary Science.

Survivors include his wife, Doris; a son, Cal, Portland; and two nieces.
