     Evan Linvill Ellis, 78, a resident of Dufur, died at a local care 
facility on Wednesday, April 6, 2005.
     He was born Jan. 30, 1927 in Harrison, Neb., the older of two boys to 
Linvill Issac and Doris Amanda (Davis) Ellis. He grew up in Kooskia, Idaho and 
graduated from Kooskia High School.
     He was immediately drafted after high school into the U.S. Army during 
World War II. Upon returning from the service, Evan attended the University of 
Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, and graduated with his bachelor of arts degree in 
education. In the mid-60’s, he returned to school attending the University of 
Oregon, and received his masters degree in education. 
     On June 2, 1962, he married Ellen Morris in Arlington, Oregon. They lived 
in Arlington until 1969, moved to Helix, and then moved to Dufur in 1972. 
     He enjoyed spending time with his family, the outdoors, wood cutting, 
walking and sports.
     He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ellen Ellis, Dufur; four 
children, Becky and her husband, Mike Morgan, Albany; Nick and his wife, Susie 
Ellis, Milton-Freewater; Donald and his wife, Nacole Ellis, Aptos, Calif.; and 
Patrick Ellis, The Dalles; two grandsons, Matt and his wife, Kim Ellis, Milton-
Freewater; and Paul Ellis, LaHonda, Calif.; one great-granddaughter, Brooke 
Ann Ellis, Milton-Freewater. He was preceded in death by his brother and his 
parents.
     A celebration of life will be held at the Dufur Methodist Church at 2 
p.m., Saturday, April 9. Cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory 
with Smith Callaway Chapel in care of arrangements.
     Memorial contributions may be made to Oregon Veterans Home Trust Fund, 
700 Veterans’ Drive, The Dalles, OR 97058.
