Wakley iwakley@msn.com May 8, 2006, 11:44 pm The Dalles Weekly Reminder, January 5, 1984 Charles Engel, 88, a lifelong resident of The Dalles area, died Dec. 27 at a local nursing home. He was born Feb. 11, 1895 in Mica, Wash. He served in the U.S. Army in World War I, and farmed in this area until 16 years ago when he retired and moved to The Dalles. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the Old Wasco County Pioneer Association and Veterans of World War I of USA. Survivors include his wife, Hazel, whom he married in Dufur in 1928; three daughters, Shirley Draper, Beaverton; Doris Benedict, Pasco, and Judith Damery, Portland; seven grandchildren; four great-granddaughters, and a brother, Christopher, in Michigan. Funeral services were Friday at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home with the Rev. Egerton Long officiating. Private burial services were at Parklawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund or to charity.
