Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 9, 2006, 5:06 pm The Dalles Weekly Reminder, March 8, 1984 Mary Ellen (Mimi) Erby, 93, a resident of The Dalles for the past 27 years, died at the local hospital Sunday after a brief illness. She was the mother of Loy Leidloff, The Dalles, with whom she had been living. Mrs. Erby was born in Evart, Mich. on March 26, 1890, to Henry G. Leach and Dr. Ida Brady Leach, who were early pioneers in the Judson Bay Co. Mrs. Erby attended the Duquesne School of Music in Pennsylvania and studied under Madame Schulman-Heinke. Mrs. Erby was a coloratura soprano and had made professional stage appearances in New York City. After moving to The Dalles, she was first soprano for the First Congregational Church choir, where she was invited to sing by the choir director, the late Mrs. Lila Fancher. Mrs. Erby remained interested in the arts and assisted her daughter with her art career during the past few years. Funeral services were held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home at 2 p.m. today with the Rev. Jim Wilson officiating. Burial will be at The Dalles IOOF Cemetery.
