Wakley iwakley@msn.com and July 23, 2006, 2:07 pm The Dalles Weekly Reminder, May 29, 1987 William Shannon Esson, 64, died at the local hospital after a sudden illness. He was a life long resident of The Dalles. Mr. Esson was born in Portland May 4, 1923. He graduated from The Dalles High School in 1949, serving in the U. S. Army during World War II as a military policeman. He worked for the City of The Dalles Police Department for over 19 years, retiring while assistant chief of police, and going to work for Martin Marietta, where he worked for over 11 years. For 20 years, he operated Esson’s Electronics. He was an amateur radio buff, also in charge of communication for the Wasco County Civil Defense Unit. He is survived by his wife, Wanda, of The Dalles, who he married May 22, 1947; a son, Floyd Esson of The Dalles; two daughters, Bonnie Good of Lamar, Colo., and Esther Jean Pearce of Austin, Tex. Funeral services were held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home with Captain Michael Dismore officiating. Burial followed at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, veteran’s section.
