Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 28, 2006, 6:49 pm The Dalles Chronicle, July 5, 2006 Lela Nina Evans, 77, a resident of The Dalles, died at a local care facility on June 28, 2006. She was born in Sherman County on Feb. 16, 1929. She had six brothers and sisters. Her parents, Albert Allen Davis and Edith Victoria (Sullivan) Davis originated from Kansas City. Her father was a home builder, and her mother was a homemaker. One of the highlights during her high school years was being a Rose Festival Princess. She was active in her church, Hinson Memorial Baptist in Portland. In her younger years, she enjoyed skiing (both water and snow skiing), swimming, and golf. She also enjoyed fashion and was very artistic. She loved to entertain. Christmas was her favorite time of year. She made lovely table arrangements. And, she loved to give presents. She married Lyle B. Evans, who preceded her in death in 1985. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed her family. She had a talent for interior design. She renovated their homes in East Moreland and Beaverton. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years, and was involved with the teenage youth group program. In the 1970’s she was a member of the Beaverton Soroptimist Club. In the 1990’s she was a local volunteer for the Red Cross. She also was a hostess for the Tigard Senior Center. In her retirement years she lived in King City and Summerfield Retirement areas in Tigard. She enjoyed taking her grandchildren swimming. She developed many friendships with her neighbors, and they often would invite each other over for coffee. She is survived by her daughter, Victoria Bolton, The Dalles; her son, David R. Evans and daughter-in-law, Dana Evans, Vancouver, Wash.; and her son, Daniel S. Evans and daughter-in-law, Shannon Evans, Myrtle Beach, S.C. She has nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Finley’s Sunset Hills in Portland, on Sunday, July 9, at 3 p.m. Donations made in memory of Nina Evans may be sent to Hospice of the Gorge, PO Box 36, Hood River, OR 97031.
