The Dalles Chronicle, November 18, 2003
     Harvey Louis Foster, 86, a resident of Arlington, died at the local 
hospital in The Dalles on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003.
     He was born Dec. 12, 1916, in a tent in Wallowa County, the sixth of 
eight children to Leonard Bird and Pearl Edith (Peck) Foster and was raised in 
Wallowa County. He herded sheep and farmed until serving in the U.S. 
Navy.      He enlisted in October 1941, was stationed on the U.S.S. George 
Clymer which was a troop transport and maintenance ship and was discharged as 
a Chief Petty Officer in November 1945.
     After the service, he returned home and married Della Jean Marshall on 
Nov. 25, 1945 in Lewiston, Idaho. The couple lived in Enterprise and Joseph 
until moving to Pendleton in November 1976. He worked as a general farmer, 
roofing contractor and carpenter prior to his retirement in Arlington in 1993.
     He was a member of Farm Bureau and had served as past president of 
Wallowa County Chapter. He enjoyed hunting and country drives.
     He is survived by his wife, Della Foster, Arlington; six children, Doug 
and his wife, Mary Foster, The Dalles; Michael and his wife, Jeannie Foster, 
Sacramento, Calif.; Jeannie and her husband, John Alford, Joseph; Jeri Foster-
Horrocks; Brian Foster and David and his wife, Leona Foster, all of Arlington; 
12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four 
brothers and three sisters.
     Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home 
on Wednesday, Nov. 19, from 2 to 7 p.m. and on Thursday from 8 to 9:30 a.m.
Graveside services will be held at Arlington Cemetery, on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 
11 a.m. with Rev. Robert Reasoner officiating. Spencer Libby and Powell 
Funeral Home are in care of arrangements.
     Memorials may be made to a charity of choice or Arlington Methodist 
Church.
