He was born July 1, 1939, in Portland, to Thomas Vincent and Wilma B. (Belshe) Conroy. He grew up in The Dalles, and following his high school years he worked for many years as a logger for the Steve Thompson Logging Co. A devoted outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and camping and going hunting with only one bullet. He also enjoyed exploring country roads, reading, and spending time with his friends. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the American Legion. In addition to his friend and companion Deanne Curtiss, he is survived by his children; sons Tim Foster of Tualitin, Ted Foster of Modesto, Calif.; and his daughter Tammy Rudy of Austin, Texas; brothers Chuck Foster of Alton, Ill., and Marty Conroy of Poulsbo, Wash.; sisters Margaret and Susie Conroy of Portland, and Gena Qedon of Beaverton; grandchildren Megan and Taylor Rudy and Nolan Foster; nieces Paula Middaugh, DeAnne Page, Katie and Rochelle Conroy. He was preceded in death by his son, Tom, and by his brothers, Pat and Tim Conroy. A gathering in celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at the Moose Lodge in The Dalles. The family will observe private ceremonies of remembrance in conjunction with the placement of his ashes. Arrangements are by Columbia Cremation & Burial.
