Fox, 91, a long time resident of the Nyssa-Ontario area, died in The Dalles on March 8, 2006 after a short illness. She was born Elsie Lavonne Hall on Dec. 24, 1914 on a ranch near Gettysburg, S.D., the eldest of nine children. She attended a small country school until high school when she moved to town to live with her grandmother so she could attend high school. She graduated in 1933. She met Clifford in high school and following her graduation, they were married on Sept. 28, 1933. They moved to Oregon in the spring of 1934, following his parents to Nyssa. They worked at various jobs in the Nyssa area until purchasing a farm on the edge of town in 1945 where they resided until his death in 1962 in a car accident. She remained in Nyssa for a few years until becoming a dorm director for the College of Idaho in 1965 (now Albertson’s College) and was director of Anderson Hall until 1981 when she retired in 1981. She moved back to Oregon, living in Ontario. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and the Holy Rosary Hospital Auxiliary. She worked in the gift shop for many years. She moved to The Dalles to be closer to her daughter in 2004. She enjoyed her family and spending time with them. Survivors include a son, Harland (Patsy) Fox, Boise; her daughter, Phyllis (Jim) Boston, The Dalles; seven grandchildren, Jim (Inis) Fox, Arla Menard, Teresa (John) Magnuson and Debbie (Tim) Bridgewater, all of Boise; and Jana (Brian) Stockner, Julie Boston (Sue Root), Bruce (Tammi) Boston, all of Western Oregon; 31 great-grandchildren and six great-greatgrandchildren; three sisters, Emma Rettig, Ontario; Dora Walters, Pierre, S.D; and Catherine Wahle, Custer, S.D.; and numero u s n i e c e s, nephews and cousins throughout the western half of the United States. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford, her parents and five brothers. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 13, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Ontario with Rev. Linda Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Hilltop Memorial Cemetery in Nyssa. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, at Lienkaemper Funeral Home in Ontario.
