The Dalles Chronicle, August 22, 2005
     Verba Phyllis Froebe, 80, a resident of The Dalles for the past 50 years, 
died at a local hospital on Friday, Aug. 19, 2005.
     She was born Dec. 14, 1924, in Yakima, Wash., the younger of two children 
to Warren Hubert and Vesta Ruth (Axtell) Maxey. She grew up in Yakima and had 
lived in Portland and Hillsboro before settling in The Dalles.
     She married Carl E. Froebe on Sept. 8, 1943, in Portland. Their marriage 
was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
     She was a homemaker and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of 
Latter-day Saints, serving as a women’s leader, children’s leader and temple 
worker in the Portland Temple.
     Her hobbies included genealogy, gardening and she was an avid reader and 
a great cook.
     She is survived by her children, Karen and her husband, Thomas Tingey, 
Caldwell, Idaho; Diane Froebe, The Dalles and Steven Froebe and his wife, Ann, 
Sandy, Utah; 17 grandchildren and 24, great grandchildren. 
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; her brother, Russell; and 
her parents.
     Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home 
on Monday, Aug. 22, from 2 to 7 p.m. and the family will be present from 6 to 
7 p.m. and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the day of the services at the 
church.      Viewing will also be from 9 to 11 a.m. at Spencer, Libby & Powell 
Funeral Home on Tuesday. 
     Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at The 
Dalles Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Jason Corey 
presiding. Interment will follow at The Dalles Three Mile Road IOOF Cemetery.
     Memorials may be made to the Perpetual Education Fund of the Church of 
Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, c/o Bishop Jason Corey or in memory of her 
quiet service to others, Haven, P.O. Box The Dalles, OR 97058.
