Maxine T. Gannom, 78, a resident of The Dalles, died Tuesday, October 29, 2002 at the local hospital. She was born July 29, 1924 in San Jose, California to Arthur and Sarah (Become) Thayer and grew up in the Santa Clara area, graduating from high school in San Jose. She married Harold E. Gannom on September 14, 1948 in Reno, Nevada. They moved to Oregon in 1961 and settled in The Dalles in 1963. She was active in league bowling and with the Foster Parents program, and helped her husband with their Watkins distributorship and his business "Papa's Produce" for many years. She enjoyed reading, hand crafts, cooking and sewing, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her children; son, Bill A. Gannom, Walla Walla, Washington; daughters Miriam E. Michel, The Dalles; Lindy Turman, Camas Valley; and Kathy Robles, Olympia, Washington; a sister, Eileen Hubel, Otis, and grandchildren Sherry, Michael, Tracy, Jason, David, Carrie, Lori, Bill, Edward, Kristine and Richard; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Her husband preceded her in death in 1998. In accordance with her wishes, no public services will be held. The family will observe private ceremonies of remembrance. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Gorge, 751 Myrtle Street, The Dalles, Oregon 97058. Arrangements were by Columbia Cremation & Burial.
