He was born in Los Angeles, the second of five children to Bennie William Sr. and Gladys (Gaspard) Guard. He was raised in California and attended Elserano High School. After high school, he married Dixie Lee Brewer on July 13, 1958. They lived in Southern California and he later married Pamela K. Fridley. He worked various jobs in California and when the family moved to Oregon he founded Pioneer Institute, a bartending academy in Portland, in 1977. The family moved to Baker in the late 70’s where he owned and operated John’s Restaurant & Hotel. He was the cofounder of Charity Systems Association with his wife, Pamela in The Dalles. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading Tom Clancy and Dean Koontz books and bingo. His passion in life was reading, researching and writing books, having one of his books published called Shackles & Snares. This book is a research of Jesus Christ. His most recent unfinished book is called Snow Dancer. He is survived by his son, Bennie W. Guard III, Calif; his son, Richard Guard, Altiloma, Calif; his daughter, Dawn and her husband, David Cochenour, Vancouver; his daughter, Desarae and her husband, Andrew Huskey, The Dalles; his daughter, Raelyn Guard, Clearwater, Fla.; his son, Chon Guard and his fiancée, Meadow Clendenin, Atlanta, Ga.; his daughter, Shaylynn and her husband, Wesley Bryant, Spokane; his son, Nathan Guard, Florence, Ala.; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother, Gladys Guard, Portland; his brother, Jimmy Tibbido, Stockton; his brother, Robert Guard, Loughton, Nev.; his sister, Barbara Guard, Portland; his ex-wives Dixie Delaney, Sacramento, and Pamela; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Bennie W. Guard Sr. in 1987; his daughter, Lori Guard in 1998; his son, Zacharia Guard in 1983 and his sister, Betty Hancock in 1999. Memorial services will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, 2004 with Asa Jenson officiating. Inurnment of his cremated remains will follow at The Dalles Odd Fellows Cemetery on Cherry Heights Road. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
