The Dalles Chronicle, December 21, 2004
     Virginia Louise Hammock, 86, a resident of Darby, Mont., died on 
Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004.
     She was born on March 5, 1918 in Bay City, Mich., to the late Alfred and 
Marie Goodband Lemuel. When she was a year old the family moved to The Dalles 
where she was raised and schooled. She loved Oregon and lived most of her life 
between The Dalles, the Oregon Coast and Springfield.
     In May 2000 she moved to Darby to be near family as Alzheimer’s began to 
take her independence.
     She loved to do crossword puzzles, watch football, especially her beloved 
Oregon Ducks, and used to attend all of the home games.
     Survivors include, her daughter Deanna and husband Carey Lish, Hamilton, 
Mont.; sister, Alfreda Armentrout, Ohio; four grandchildren and 11 great-
grandchildren, Gini and William Steinmetz, Erin and Amy, Rocky River, Ohio; 
Bill and Pam Judd, Kevin, Bryan and Kayley, Vancouver, Wash.; Michele Remsey, 
Brad, Robbie, Tanner and Morgan, Warren, Ohio; and Kristi and Jon Edmondson, 
Dayna and Josh, Darby; step- daughter Montie and Tom Owens, Medford; Lanny 
Hammock and family, the Orient; a very special sister-in-law, Fay Lemuel and 
cousin Barbara Ayers and family, The Dalles, and numerous nieces and nephews.
     Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Howard 
Dixon in 1968 and Marion (Bark) Hammock in 1991; one brother, Edward, and a 
sister, Lucille.
     At her request, no formal service will be held. Private family urn 
placement will take place later in Oregon.
     Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation.
     Local arrangements are under the care of the Daly-Leach Chapel in 
Hamilton.
