Betty Jones Holmes, 66, a resident of The Dalles, died on November 16, 2002. She was born June 3, 1936 to Nettie (Johnston) and Archie Martin in Trout Lake, Washington. She grew up and lived in southern states for many years. She moved to Trout Lake in 1966 where she worked at the Trout Lake School. She also worked at the Hood River (Oregon) Care Center. She was retired for several years. She moved to Lyle (Washington) about three years ago and to The Dalles two months ago. She enjoyed boating, horses and her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Scott Ashton, The Dalles; sons, John Crippen, The Dalles; Thomas Crippen, Lyle; Dan and Rick Jones, both of Husum (Washington); and Shawn Garrison, The Dalles; sisters, Mary Krautkramer, Grants Pass (Oregon), and Peach Johnson, Eureka, California; five granddaughters and one great grandson. She was preceded in death by a brother, Beau Martin, and one granddaughter. A graveside service will be held Thursday, November 21, at 2 p.m. at the White Salmon cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Doernbecher Children's Hospital in care of Gardner Funeral Home, P.O.
