Edina Henrietta Holmes, 90, died in Portland at a nursing home Wednesday, Nov. 
27.  She was a resident of Grass Valley from 1920 to 1965.

Mrs. Holmes was born to Ulysses G. Venator and Margaret M. Baker.  She 
graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Portland in 1912.  She graduated from 
Oregon Normal School in Monmouth in 1916.  She married William S. Holmes in 
Portland on June 26, 1920.  They lived on a ranch southwest of Grass Valley 
from June 1920 until October 1965.  They moved to Depoe Bay until May 1966, 
when they moved to Lincoln City.

Mrs. Holmes was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Lincoln City.

She is survived by her husband, William Holmes, Lincoln City; two sons:  
Robert W. Holmes, San Diego, Calif.; and Samuel B. Holmes, Portland; three 
daughters:  Margaret M. Conner and Jeanette Conover, Lincoln City; and Dorothy 
A. Johansen, Portland; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held Sunday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. at Smith 
Callaway Chapel.  Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, Dec. 2 at 11 
a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in Grass Valley 
Cemetery, Grass Valley.  Pallbearers will be Robert A. Newman, Richard A. 
Newman, Samuel E. Holmes, Steven W. Holmes, Ronald W. Holmes, Jeffrey R. 
Holmes and Theron Conover.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Academy Foundation of The Dalles, P.O. Box 
41, The Dalles, Ore. 97058; or St. Mary's Academy, 1615 S.W. 5th Ave., 
Portland, Ore., 97201.
