     Joan Elizabeth Huston, 85, a resident of Dufur, died at the local 
hospital Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004.
     She was born Feb. 2, 1919 in The Dalles, the third of four children to 
Grover and Marion (Saxton) Slusher. She was raised in Dufur and graduated from 
Dufur High School in 1936. 
     Joan married Merle Leon Huston on June 10, 1943 in Deridder, La., while 
he was in the service. They lived in Dufur and she worked at the U.S. National 
Bank starting in the 1960’s and retiring in the 1980’s.
     She was a member of Dufur Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary.
     She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Merle L. Huston, Dufur; two 
daughters, Pam and her husband, Jim Catterson, Prineville; and Kay Kallberg, 
St. Helens; four grandchildren, Todd, Shannon, Jason and Kristi; one great-
grandson, Cade and one brother, Francis “Pete” Slusher, The Dalles. She was 
preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Margaret and Dorothy.
     Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home 
on Wednesday, Feb. 25, from 2 to 7 p.m. and on Thursday from 8:30 until 10 a.m.
     Funeral services will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home 
on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. with Asa Jenson officiating. Private 
interment follows at Three Mile Road Odd Fellows Cemetery, formerly known as 
Parklawn Cemetery.
     Memorials may be made to Dufur Ambulance Fund, c/o City of Dufur, PO Box 
145, Dufur, OR 97021 or Dufur Scholarship Fund, 802 NE 5th Street, Dufur, OR 
97021.
