Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 28, 2006, 7:07 pm The Dalles Chronicle, July 10, 2006 Anson Lee Lindley, 80, a resident of Maupin, died June 29, 2006, at a local care facility. He was born in Maupin, the youngest of six children, to Anson Theodore and Zelma (Buzan) Lindley on March 18, 1926. He grew up in Maupin, and graduated from Maupin High School in 1944. Mr. Lindley joined the Army in August 1944, and was discharged in August 1946. He married Ruth Lease on Sept. 25, 1948, in Maupin. When he returned home from the Army, he farmed with his father in the Bakeoven area near Maupin, and was a cattle and wheat rancher. Throughout his 56 years as a rancher, his goal was to preserve the ranch for future Lindley generations. He enjoyed building more than 125 miles of roads and more than 200 dams. He maintained many miles of division fences to rotate the cattle and preserve the grass. He also loved watching football on television. Mr. Lindley is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Lindley, of Maupin; daughters, Rhonda Lee and her husband Ron Townsend of Grass Valley; Mary Ann and her husband Bob Standage of Vale; sons, Richard Alan and his wife Cecilia Lindley of Maupin, William Jay and his wife Cheryl Lindley of Salem; grand- daughter Eileen Frances Crawford; grandsons Robert Lee Townsend, Daniel Edward Lindley, Douglas Jay Lindley, Matthew Lee Standage and Lee Van Lindley; great- grand-daughter Emily Ruth Crawford; great-grand-sons Curtis Allen Crawford, Wyatt Lee Townsend, Quincy Miles Townsend and Andrew Charles Lindley; sister, Frances Lindley of Portland; lifelong friends, Raymond Richmond, Leland Mayhew and John Shearer. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Wendell and Melvin and his sisters, Eunice and Marge. A private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-Quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby, and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Mr. Lindley’s ashes will be scattered over his beloved century-old ranch.
