She was born Oct. 12, 1920 in Salem, the fourth of eight children to Harry and Ida (Potter) Bowman. She was raised in Oregon and Washington, attending school in both states. After high school, she worked in the Mt. Vernon area as a cook. She married Pius D. “Knute” Marick on Dec. 26, 1938 in Portland. After their marriage, they moved to the Rock Creek area near Arlington where they farmed until 1950, then moved to The Dalles. In The Dalles, they owned and operated a peach orchard. Her husband died in 1962 and she moved to Portland in 1965 to be near family. She worked at a personal computer manufacturing company where she assembled computer boards. In May 1971, she married Warren Penny in Vancouver, Wash., and they moved to the Tri-Cities area in Washington. He died in 1975 and after his death, she worked for a physician’s office in Pasco, Wash. She moved to Nevada in 1976 then to Tillamook, in 1986 and back to Portland in 2001. She was a member of the St. Peters Catholic Church and American Legion in Portland and former member of St. Peters Catholic Church and Eagles Lodge in The Dalles. She loved being with her family and enjoyed arts, crafts and gardening. She is survived by her two children, Ida B. Marick, Portland; Richard Marick, Montana; her brother, Joseph Bowman, Portland; her sister, Nadine Menkie, Milwaukie; numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in The Dalleson Friday, Sept. 10, 2004 with Rev. Todd Unger officiating. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
