Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 22, 2006, 11:47 am The Dalles Weekly Reminder, February 23, 1984 Wallace Leon May, 84, a resident of The Dalles for the past nine years and formerly a resident of Grass Valley for 40 years, died Friday at Mid- Columbia Medical Center. He was born Dec. 8, 1889 in Woodburn. Mr. May was a member of the Methodist Church, the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge, the Oregon Wheat League, the Oregon Cattleman's Association, and was a veteran of World War I. He graduated from Oregon State College in the School of Agriculture in 1923. He operated the family ranch near Grass Valley before he retired and moved to The Dalles. Survivors include his wife, Alta, whom he married in Hood River on Oct. 3, 1937; a son, Clarence May, in Alaska; a sister Lula Brandt, Florida; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were Monday at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Tanquist officiating. Masonic rites were also conducted. Burial was at Parklawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital in care of George Specht.
