Minnie Louise Morris, 98, a lifetime resident of Rufus, died at a local care center on Monday. She was born Aug. 20, 1895 at Rufus, the youngest of four children to Frank L. and Sarah (Graham) Hurley. She married Walter A. Morris on Jan. 10, 1915 at The Dalles. They grew a variety of fruits in their orchards near the Columbia River at Rufus. She was a lifetime member of Eastern Star and the Rufus Grange. She enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and doing needlework. Survivors include four daughters, Jean Brown, Rufus; Marjorie Klock, Portland; Lila Adams, Salem, and Betty (Myers) Opperman, St. Helens; two sons, Joseph Morris, Central Point, and Robert Morris, Rufus; 18 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren. Her husband, Walter, died in December of 1973. Viewing visitation will be at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 7 p.m. and Friday from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Graveside funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Wasco Sunrise Cemetery with Pastor Asa Jenson officiating. Memorials may be made to the Rufus Volunteer Ambulance Fund or charity of choice in care of the funeral home.
