Surnames: Navarre, Slater, Austin Betty Jean "Betty Boop" Navarre, 77, a resident of The Dalles, died at her home Friday, February 28, 2003. She was born December 11, 1925 in Independence, Kansas, the youngest of two children to Vernon Stanley and Bessie Glady (Slater) Austin. She grew up in Liberty, Kansas and graduated high school and community college in Coffeyville, Kansas. She married Jack G. Navarre on August 18, 1951 in Huntsville, Arkansas and they lived in Independence, Oregon. In 1966 the family moved to Medford (Oregon) where she worked for Harry and Davids, Bear Creek Orchards and for Jackson and Perkins Roses as an executive secretary. In 1975 she and her husband moved to The Dalles to be near their son. She was a member of St Peter Catholic Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame and the Women's Bowling Association. She enjoyed oil painting and bowling with her friends. She is survived by her son, Gary L. and wife, Patricia A. Navarre and their children, Sean G. and Michelle L. Navarre; great-granddaughters, Jennifer Elizabeth and Alexandria Marie, all of Vancouver (Washington). She was preced in death by her husband, Jack G. Navarre and her brother, Walter Austin. Graveside services will be held at St. Pete Catholic Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Thursday March 6, with Reverend Joseph Kelbel officiating. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Memorials can be made to Home At Last Animal Friends, P.O.
