She was born June 6, 1924, in Keokuk, Iowa, the younger of two daughters to Hugh and Nettie (Cooper) Salliday. She grew up in Iowa, and then lived in various places before settling in The Dalles. She was a homemaker and had also worked as a bartender and at Columbia Basin Nursing Home. She was a member of the American Legion, Elks and Eagles auxiliaries and in her younger days enjoyed rock hounding, gardening, feeding the birds, time in the forest and trips to the coast. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Donna Jean Mills, The Dalles; Nancy and Zak Ortiz, Lynden, Wash.; Susan Payton, Bellingham, Wash.; Johnny Loving, Nebraska; Neal “Mike” Lentfer, Jr. and Sherrie, Bend; Judy and Bill Robbins, Wamic; and Pam and Chuck Schultze, Dallesport; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. She was preceded in death by three husbands, James Vallard, Neal Lentfer and Lavor Pugmire; her sons, Terry Lentfer and James “Jimmy” Vallard and her sister, Viola Smith. Private family graveside service will be held at Echo Cemetery in Echo on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 380 SE Spokane St. # 110, Portland, OR 97202 or the American Cancer Society, 2120 First Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98109.
