Surnames: Ritter, Baker, Spencer, Zeigler, Benoit, Wohlrab, Brown, Leland "Lee" Stanford Ritter, 82, a resident of Maryhill, Washington, died at his home on Monday, March 3, 2003. He was born April 28, 1920, in Gold Hill, the fifth of nine children to John Jacob and Lulu Margaret (Baker) Ritter. He married Marie Spencer in Reno, Nevada, on December 18, 1941. He was in the first U.S. World War II draft and placed in the Army-Airforce in February 1942. He moved his family to Goldendale (Washington) in September 1943. He worked in logging as a "cat skinner," road construction and dam building as a heavy equipment operator for 50 years. He lived to enjoy his family, friends, motor cycling with his grandkids and operation of any diesel engine equipment. He loved to hunt and had many fun and good seasons with friends and families. He took his family on many trips, once leaving the day school was out, traveling across the U.S. and arrived home the day before school started. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marie Ritter; his children and their spouses, Sandy and Dan Zeigler, Beaverton (Oregon); Roger and Lynn Ritter, Mornton, California; daughter-in-law, Karen Ritter; four grandchildren and their spouses, Brent and Dixie Benoit, Tigard (Oregon); Janine and Eric Wohlrab, Vacaville, California; Suzanne and Danny Brown, Clements, California; and Michael and Genifer Ritter, Seattle (Washington); and six great-grandchildren, Nicole and Skyler Benoit, Roman and Roland Wohlrab and Jarene and Raychel Brown. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jarene, son Arnold and seven brothers and two sisters. Memorial services will be held at United Brethren Church, Saturday March 8, at 11 a.m. Following the memorial service, a gathering lunch of family and friends will be held at the Goldendale Grange Hall, East Darland and Wilbur Streets.
