Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 31, 2006, 1:12 pm The Dalles Chronicle, September 12, 2006 Violet Mae Sauter, 79, a resident of The Dalles, died at her home on Saturday, September 9, 2006 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 24, 1927 in Colorado, the eldest of five children to Edgar James and Helen Louise (Galyan) Rea. As a young woman, Violet attended nursing school in The Dalles. It was during this time that she met and married her beloved husband, Kenneth I. Sauter in 1945. They were married for fifty-two years when Kenneth passed away in 1997. Together, Kenneth and Violet built a very prosperous trucking company. Beginning in the early 1940’s, they hauled wheat and cattle and eventually branching into lumber and salvage. They built many houses, warehouses, mini storage units and had a large rental business. In their spare time, they raised polled Hereford cattle on their ranch on seven-mile and bought and sold surplus goods. Violet was a life-time member of the Moose Lodge, Elks, Historical Society, Interpretive Center, Oregon Historical Trucks, Old Car Club and the Pioneers. In her later years she enjoyed traveling, fishing, and whale watching in Alaska with her husband, Jim Adams. Violet’s family includes her daughter, Linda Sauter; grandsons, Kenny and wife Helen Tesch and Todd Tesch; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Diane, Kathryn Violet and Kenneth Sauter Tesch. She is further survived by her sister, Wanda Gellert and her husband Marv; brother, Clifford Rea and wife Annette; nieces, Ramona Ackerman, Barbara Ferguson, Carolyn Reese, Debbie Neinas; nephew, Hal Denton and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Virgil Eugene Rea in 1976 and one sister, Rose Marie Rea in 2006. Services will be held Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at 11:00 am at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home with Interment to follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery. Early visitation will be held from 9:00 am until time of service. Memorials may be made to the Moose Lodge # 2075, 233 E 3rd St, The Dalles, OR 97058.
