     Alpha Marie Schacher, 86, a resident of The Dalles, died at her 
daughter’s home Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004.
     She was born Oct. 11, 1917, in Washburn, N.D., the seventh of 10 children 
to John Henry and Alma Serphia (Youngquist) Yunker and was raised in Washburn.
     She married Leo S. Schacher on June 1, 1935, in Washburn. He worked for a 
paint contractor in Garrison, N.D., then in September 1956, he transferred to 
The Dalles to work on The Dalles Dam project.
     She was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses and enjoyed her family, 
homemaking, cooking and sewing, the outdoors, gardening and her chickens.      
In her younger years she enjoyed dancing, playing harmonica and accordion. 
     She is survived by her nine children and their spouses, Robert and Cleo 
Schacher, Salem; Darlene and Warren Stone, Modesto, Calif.; Larry and Bobbi 
Schacher, Gresham; Loren and Linda Schacher, The Dalles; Judy Mahaffey, Salem; 
Mary and Sam George, Mesa, Ariz.; Tim and Lorraine Schacher, The Dalles; 
Bonnie and Lee Greenway, The Dalles; and Bev and Mike Winder, The Dalles; 26 
grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Yunker, Washburn; 
three sisters, Agnes Keck, Pearce, Ariz.; Aleta Martin, Washburn; and Ada 
Webster, Wisconsin.
     Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home 
on Tuesday, March 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
     Graveside services will be held at The Dalles Three Mile Road Odd Fellows 
Cemetery, formerly known as Parklawn Cemetery on Tuesday, March 2, at 4 p.m. 
Memorial services will be held at The Dalles Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s 
Witnesses, 2500 West 8th St., on Saturday, March 6, at 1 p.m. with Rod Phelan 
officiating. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
