DEATH OF EMILE SCHANNO 

Member of State Board of Horticulture and a Fruit Expert

The Dalles, Dec. 6 - Emile Schanno, a prominent and wealthy citizen of this 
city, died suddenly at 6 o’clock this morning of heart failure. His death was 
unexpected. Mr. Schanno was born in Alsace-Loraine, France, in 1841. He came 
to America in 1853, and is a pioneer of Oregon and The Dalles. He was married 
in this city to Miss Eliza Shuster. Leo Schanno and Mrs. H.J. Muir, of The 
Dalles, and Mrs. J.E. Detter, of Walla Walla, are children of the deceased. 
Mr. Schanno, who was a member of the State Board of Horticulture, was well 
known as a fruit expert. He was formerly a member of the City Council, and was 
a public- spirited citizen.
