The Dalles Chronicle, November 11, 2004
     Carole Maurine Schmadeka, 62, a former resident of The Dalles, died at a 
care center in Everett, Wash., on Nov. 6, 2004.
     She was born on May 20, 1942, to Ralph and Alyce Holm in Portland. She 
moved with her family over the years to North Seattle and Kenmore. She 
graduated from Bothel High School in 1960, moved out of the family home the 
same year and went to work for the Applied Physics Lab at the University of 
Washington.
     She married Terry Schmadeka on July 13, 1962. They moved to Bellingham, 
Wash., where their first son, Kevin, was born in 1965. When her husband 
graduated from college they moved to The Dalles.
     Their second son, Jeff, was born there in 1967, and the family spent many 
years in the Columbia Gorge area.
     Health issues eventually brought her into the care of an Everett nursing 
home where she remained until her death.
     She was a lifelong Lutheran and regularly attended church services and 
Bible study everywhere she lived.
     Survivors include her two sons, Kevin, Burlington, Wash., and Jeff, 
Vancouver, Wash.; her brother, Jon Holm, southern Illinois; her parents, Ralph 
and Alyce Holm, Everett; and a granddaughter, Amanda, Vancouver.
     She was preceded in death by her huband in 1981.
     Her remains will be interred in Evergreen Cemetery in Everett.
