He was born April 20, 1933 in Oregon City to Maynard and Ruth (Schmoker) Shepard and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked as a machinist, served as a police officer, and worked at All- Star Rafting in Maupin. He retired in 1996 and moved to Tygh Valley, where he built his own home. He loved the outdoors, and fishing and golfing with his family and friends filled most of his days. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Nola, Tygh Valley; a daughter Debra Ross, a son David Shepard, and grandchildren, Mike and Chris Ross, Tyler and Kaci Shepard. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Maupin. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of The Gorge, 751 Myrtle Street, The Dalles, OR 97058. Arrangements are by Columbia Cremation & Burial.
