Wakley iwakley@msn.com May 23, 2006, 11:53 am The Dalles Weekly Reminder, December 8, 1995 Memorial services for Homer Dale Wood, a resident of The Dalles, will be held Saturday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Karl Vercouteren officiating. Mr. Wood died at a local care center Saturday, Dec. 2, 1995. He was 85. He was born April 20, 1910 in Vancouver, Wash., the youngest of three children to Homer Sperry and Eva (Robinson) Wood. He grew up in Independence and graduated from high school there in 1927. In 1935, Mr. Wood married LoRayne Haag and they lived in the Salem area. He was a sales manager for Haag Tractor Company of Salem for several years before he owned his own tractor company in McMinnville. Mr. Wood's three sons, Rex Rudolph Wood, Homer Dale Wood of Albany, Wash., and Craig Charles Wood, of Toronto, Ontario, were all born in Salem. Rex died of leukemia at age three. The family moved to California in 1947 and he and LoRayne divorced. In 1952, he married Mildred Evelyn Kron Bramann in Misoula, Mont., and they moved to The Dalles in 1953. Mr. Wood sold cars for several years before working for Harvey Aluminum until his retirement in 1972. Following his retirement, the couple enjoyed farming their Brown's Creek property. He loved hunting, fishing and especially motorcycles. He joined the Rose City Motorcycle Club and over a period of 15 years, logged over 300,000 miles, doing over 35,000 miles in one year alone. After his wife died, motorcycling became his livelihood and the motorcycle club became his second family. He rode until age 80, when failing eyesight took him off the road. In addition to his two sons, survivors include two step-daughters, Rose VanRiper Curtiss of The Dalles and Sue Bramann of Portland; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and nieces Eva Lorene Daniels and Betty Lou Antrobus.
