HELEN M. LOCKE was the daughter of Arthur & Bernadette Locke (per the 1910
census). She is the sister of Margie Locke, with whom she shares a gravestone.
Birth date of January 1903 and death date of Dec 1919 (and middle initial) are
from cemetery records; no record can be found in the Oregon Death Index. The
gravestone lists her birth year as 1904, however, based on the cemetery's
records of her age at death (16 years, 10 months, 29 days) that would place her
birth in January 1903.

She was born in Oregon. Her father Arthur Locke was born in about 1872 in
Wisconsin; her mother Bernadetta was born about 1881 in Canada (per the 1910
census in Arleta, Multnomah County, Oregon, USA).

I have a vague memory of being told that Helen died during the 1918 flu
epidemic, although I'm not positive of that. She is not a relative of mine, but
I was told that my grandmother Alma (Powell) Richmond would tend the gravesite
of Helen and Margie Locke every year on Memorial Day. She did this as a kindness
to the Locke family because they had to move away from Maupin.
