DELLA ALICE WHITE was born 20 June 1877 in Harrison County, Iowa, USA, the
daughter of Homer White and Nancy Anna Powell.  The Homer White family came west
with the railroad, eventually settling in the Wapinitia area of Wasco County,
Oregon.  On 31 December 1896 in Wapinitia, Della married her husband, John
Melvin Powell (a different branch of Powells), son of Isaac Jamison Powell and
Adelia Emily Collver.  

John and Della had a homestead up on Juniper Flat, near Wapinitia, and all of
their 10 children were born there on the family farm.  Della developed colon
cancer, and died on 04 Jan 1927 in The Dalles, Wasco County, Oregon, USA.  She
was buried in Kelly Cemetery, near Wapinitia (and near their family farm), in
Wasco County, Oregon.  John remarried a few times (although none of them were
lengthy marriages), lost the homestead because of financial difficulties (some
stemming from Della's medical bills), and eventually ended up in Portland, where
he died on 07 Feb 1958.  John was buried in Kelly Cemetery, next to Della, on 11
Feb 1958.
