J. Clarke Publishing Company One of the leading, funeral directors of Washington county is George J. Limber, of Hillsboro, who through his careful and painstaking work, has gained an enviable reputation and commands his full share of the business in his line. He was born in Mercer county, Pennsylvania, in 1876, and is a son of George W. and Margaret R. Limber, both of whom were natives of Pennsylvania and died in that state. They made several trips to the coast, but never established their residence here. Mr. Limber's brother, V. H. Limber, came to Oregon in the year of the Lewis & Clark exposition, and in the following year established an undertaking business at Forest Grove. Later he was in the same business at Vancouver, Washington, but has recently sold out and moved to California. George J Limber received a good public school education and then entered the Pennsylvania College of Embalming and the Pittsburgh College of Anatomy, one institution, from which he was graduated, after which he worked for undertaking firms in and near Pittsburgh for several years. In 1913 he came to the Pacific coast, and in search of a satisfactory location spent three years in Portland, Oregon, Tacoma, Washington, and Oregon City, Oregon. Eventually he decided to locate in Hillsboro and in 1916 established his present business. He was the pioneer in this section in instituting a residence funeral parlor, buying and remodeling the building which he now occupies and which is in every respect admirably adapted to his purposes. It is well furnished and equipped and here Mr. Limber has every facility for the proper care of his business. Mr. Limber served as county coroner for ten years, resigning that position in the summer of 1927, in order to be able to give his sole attention to his undertaking business. He is a member of Tuality Lodge, No. 6, A. F. & A. M.; Portland Consistory, A. A. S. R., the Odd Fellows, of which he is a past noble grand; and the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. He also belongs to the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce and has shown a readiness at all times to cooperate in all efforts to advance the community interests. He is a man of sterling character and fine personal qualities and has gained the uniform confidence and respect of his fellowmen.
