Hillsboro,Or.,Sept.24- (Special)
Fedde Carstens,fro 34 years a resident of this county,died at his home in this 
city Saturday.Deceased was born in Germany,June 26,1824. He came to the United 
States at the age of 29,and settled in Northern Indiana.He was married to Miss 
Henrietta Deelwater,March 29,1855,and they came to Oregon in 1870,purchasing 
the now famous Hawthorne ranch,east of this place.Later he sold the place to 
Dr.Hawthorne and moved to another purchase on Dairy Creek,where he lived until 
1887,when he moved to Hillsboro,where he has since resided.His wife died in 
1901.Seven children survive all prominent in the affairs of Washington County. 
They are:
Anton C. and Henry C.,Banks; Lewis F., Manning; John F.,Banks;Mrs.Sophie 
Smith,Forest Grove;Mrs.Henrietta Williams,Rainier;and Mrs. Emma McKinney,one 
of the publishers of the Argus at Hillsboro.
