He was born in Knox County, Mo., in 1825 and crossed the plains with the first train in 1844, settling west of this place on a donation land claim of 558 acres. He went through the Cayuse War in 1847-48, and later went to the California gold fields in 1849. Returning, he was married to Lydia Ganwood in 1851, the wife dying in 1900. The surviving children are: Rebecca J. Pomeroy, of Kamiah, Idaho; James W. Jobe, British Columbia; Lilburn Jobe, Wasco; Martin E. Jobe, Nez Perce; W.F. Jobe, Irvington, and Mrs. Nellie Taylor, wife of W.H. Taylor, of this city. Deceased was brought home from Idaho, where he went to visit a daughter, last Wednesday. The funeral takes place Wednesday afternoon at 2 and interment will be in the Oddfellow’s Cemetery. Deceased was highly respected and had a host of pioneer friends.
