Oct.18.-(Special)- Luke Mckern, an Oregon Pioneer of 1850, and one of Yamhill County's well to do farmers, was born in Orange County,Indiana, June 11,1827. He died here October 14. At 23 years he crossed the plains with ox team. For a time he packed to the Cariboo Mountains,California, a distance of 2000 miles. Returning to his claim in Yamhill county, he devoted his time to agricultural pursuits until two years ago, when he completed a residence in Newberg.
