His body was laid in the family plot at Sidney Plains, N.Y. He was led into the kingdom when about sixteen years of age. His educational advantages were such as the common school can give and such as he could get by spending some time at the seminary in Charlotteville, N.Y. His limited means would not permit him to complete the course, as he was trying to pay his own way through. He received a local preacher's license in 1859. In 1862 he accepted work under the presiding elder, and in 1863 joined the Wyoming Conference. It is said that every charge he served, save one, was blessed with a revival, and that over one thousand souls were led to Christ by him. When, in 1890, he was appointed to Castle Creek he felt that he could not carry on the work. The result justified his decision. Cancer of the liver terminated his life in the fall. In 1862 he married Miss Delia B. Swift. To them three children were born, two of whom, with the wife, survived him. His pastoral record is as follows: 1863, Cherry Ridge; 1864-65, Tallmansville; 1866-68, Damascus; 1869-71, Hawley; 1872, Berkshire; 1873-74, Candor; 1875, Sidney Plains; 1876-77, Bainbridge; 1878-79, Worcester; 1880, New Berlin; 1881-82, Mount Upton; 1883-85, Plains; 1888-89, Nichols; 1890, Castle Creek.
