New York: Eaton & Mains, 1904, page 402. ________________________________________________ Smith, Charles, was born on May 10, 1849, at Howard, Steuben County, N.Y. He was converted at twenty-two years of age, and at twenty-seven entered the ministry of the Baptist Church. He attended the Alford Seminary and University about nine years, graduating from the seminary. After being in the ministry of the Baptist Church about twelve years he entered the evangelistic work, in which he continued about two years. While in this work he published a hymn book for revival work, a series of tracts designed for evangelistic work, and a monthly paper, which was used as an aid in his work. On October 10, 1882, he married Miss Mary E. Johnson, of Yorkshire, Cattaraugus County, N.Y., who died January 6, 1889. On January 9, 1890, he married Miss Sarah F. Depew, of Canandaigua. In 1891 he joined Wyoming Conference, being received on his credentials from the Baptist Church.
