New York: Eaton & Mains, 1904, pages 436-437. ________________________________________________ Wood, Stephen H., was born on June 12, 1847, near the village of Montgomery, Orange County, N.Y. He was the youngest of a family of five children. His parents both dying before he was three years old, he found a home with his widowed aunt until he was eleven years old, when he was started to work his way in the world. At sixteen he enlisted as a private soldier in the civil war and served until the close, about eighteen months. His only brother was killed in the battle of Cedar Creek, Va., in September, 1864. His educational advantages were limited. After his conversion, being impressed with his duty to preach, he entered the Whitesboro Seminary, in Oneida County, N.Y., being twenty-two at the time of entering. In March, 1872, he married Miss S. Estella Wood, of Norwich, N.Y. He preached for a Free Will Baptist Church three years, after which he joined this Conference in 1876. Since retiring from active work he has lived at Afton, N.Y.
