His presence is documented by "History of Berks and Lebanon Counties, Pa when a division was made to separate Bethel and Lebanon Twps in 1739. Records recently found show Peter Tittle, Sr and Peter Tittle, Jr located at Frostburg, Md and indicate that they could have settled there as early as 1740 and continued for many years. Sarah Tittle (probable daughter of Peter,Jr) married Lemuel Barritt and a manuscript of his life gives much data for the Tittle family of Frostburg and later migration to Bourbon and Harrison Counties, Kentucky. A John Tittle is on records of Cecil Co, Md in 1707 and other names follow. More research is needed to connect existing family lines to the earliest settlers. As John Tittle of Bethel is the only Tittle of record in the Pa. area at this time, it is assumed that he is the "First Generation" and that "Second Generation Tittles" in this immediate area are offspring of the "First". Thus the following outline. Peter Tittle, Sr of Carlisle,Cumberland Co. Pa, stated in "History of Cumberland Co, Pa" as being one of its earliest settlers, before 1745. Land deed records document his residence in this area at least until 1763 and perhaps later. A deposition given by Peter, Sr in 1760 regarding the death of an Indian also gives his date of birth as 1725. A daughter Elizabeth (possibly named for her grandmother) married James Hunter (see will of James Hunter) who was a neighbor in the area. Extensive records are available for the son Peter, Jr who married Sarah Whitesides, also a neighbor in this area and their family is found later in Westmoreland Co, Pa. George Tittle of East Hanover, Pa records, born ca 1727. Multiple "Tax Records" show property holdings and some of his children's births were listed by records of Rev John Casper Stoever. Rachel Tittle married in July 1748 to Samuel Jones at Bethel Township. Anthony Tittle on same "Tax List" as George in East Hanover for the years 1750 and 1751. In 1755 he is witness for Peter, Sr on "Land Transaction" at Carlisle, Pa. Later records place his residency as Pittsylvania Co (later Henry Co), Va. Catherine Tittle of East Hanover "Tax Records" assumed Widow of a son of John born about 1735. Family listed c. 1800, East Hanover, Pa. Jeremiah is the last of my list of "Second Generation" and was probably born about 1737. He is also found on same "Tax Lists" as Catherine (Widow) Tittle. He is listed as having a large family on Census-1790. This does not in any way close the door for any other individual that will fit into this category by future records that may be uncovered and neither is it intended to state that the foregoing is a certainty. It is the hope of this researcher that records will continue to surface that will give a clearer and more precise record of our ancestry. The Jacob Tittle family line is left unconnected from lack of data but he is most likely a grandson of John and possibly by way of the son Jeremiah as supposed by research materials of Fremont Tittle. Also John and Frederick of Lehigh/Northampton Co, Pa are left suspended as is Henry of Jonestown and several others located by various records which do not provide adequate data for placement.
